Do you know where to buy wildflowers (protected ones)
I want a small fleabane? Its a protected species in parts of the Uk. I wanted to plant some in a wildflower meadow where it once grew natively. The site is a nature reserve in the making.
Oh Ruth - how wonderful! One day I hope to be organized again. :) And yes - there are still such lively and vibrant colors in the garden - isn't it wonderful?
Jasmine - common names take on different forms from region to region, country to country, and what I call fleabane here may not be what you are after. You would best served by seeking an herbalist or botanist in your community to support you in this effort. Best wishes!
Doesn't it feel good when you complete a project like this?! I love it when I've just straightened some shelves, etc - tho am not as fond of actually DOING it! Your tinctures look lovely.
Jasmine, our local 'native Plant Society' offers native plants at a sale in the spring, many of them protected - perhaps you can find a similar group in your area.
A butterfly named after my father-in law (now deceased) is now endangered: recently some of my friends with seveal acres were approached by a group that's re-establishing its' habitat. They offered to cut the invasive weeds, & replant with both the plant it hatches on, & some of its favorite food plants (all beautiful wildflowers!)
I think I like that showy fuchsia the best!
Your photos are spectacular and bring me to me knees. I live in a cabin in the woods and have attempted over the 23 years to plant indigenous seeds on my hillside and deer proof plants. The later I have not done a very good job but the deer love our buffet I plant each year. Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
Thanks everyone for the compliments! (Sorry it took my so long to respond.)
Dia - It does feel great to get things organized--now I can find what I need! I wish I had more sun to grow more wildflowers.
Julia - it's a toss up for me on the fuschia and cosmos. The cosmos are still showing they're smiling faces in my garden.
Mary-Helen - luckily I don't get any deer in my suburban area.
Happy Autumn! Ruth :D
